Step 17 : Visa step 5: Give your visa interview

I am assuming that you are preparing for your visa while doing the above steps. You need to get many documents ready (Refer FAQs)). Do that as soon as your semester 8 exam is over. Getting a student visa is not at all difficult, just don't goof up. You will hear those golden words "your visa is approved" for sure.

In the visa interview, you just have to prove the following things :

1) Why are you going to that University, and why that course.
2) You (and/or your sponsors) have the sufficient amount of funds for your education.
3) You love India and you will come back as soon as you MS is done.

You have to be confident. If you know you are not wrong, confidently say "yes sir" to questions like "are you sure....".

USGuide's tip: Please do not use agencies that prepare your financial documents. Some agencies like these are black listed by the USA. If you are caught, your visa will be rejected and you will also be blacklisted which won't make you eligible to apply again and go to the USA anytime in the future.

Visa FAQ:
  • What if my visa is rejected?
In an unfortunate event of your visa getting rejected, you can apply again at least 3 working days after your 1st interview. If you are rejected for a second time, you could be in a soup.

  • What documents are generally carried with us during the visa interview?
Following is a list of documents that you need to carry with you. Remember, this list is not the final one. Things can be added or subtracted depending on the student.
  • Passport, acceptance letter, I-20, Appointment letter from VFS
  • SEVIS fee receipt
  • Asset statement
  • Savings account bank statements or pass books
  • Income tax returns (For the last 3 years)
  • Fixed deposit receipts
  • Share certificates or DMAT account statements
  • PPF account statements
  • Proof of any other asset statement mentioned in the asset statement

  • How should I make the asset statement?
An asset statement is an excel spreadsheet. It has 3 columns : "List of assets" "Rupees" "Dollars". The assets are divided into 3 sections :
    Section 1: Movable assets
It includes your saving bank accounts, fixed deposits, PPF, Bonds, Shares, LIC policies, cash etc.
A row in this section looks like this (example) :
Cumulative deposit of saving bank accounts in Canara Bank :: 15,00,00 :: 32,609

    Section 2: Immovable assets
Any property (like your flat, or a plot of land) goes in this section.
A row in this section looks like this (example) :
    Ownership flat at: <address>, Area=XX sq.ft @ Rs. XX per sq. ft :: 40,00,000 :: 86,956

Section 3: Estimated Annual Family income
A sample row in this section :
